As long as I can remember I have enjoyed making letters. I was particularly inspired in 3rd grade to completely change my handwriting several times during the year. The one I remember had lower case letters that were only about 1/16" high. My teacher's name was Mrs. Hardy and I thought her very old (she did retire soon after my year and hopefully not because my letters impaired her eyesight!) and kind of crabby. She really railed on me about those letters, but I kept creating more. Maybe there's a font idea there? Hmmm.
Anyway, in the fall of 1996, while waiting for my girls at the community center, I saw a poster for a calligraphy class. It was an amazing poster that drew me in. My first teacher was Leslie Hardy, a generous man who is an amazing calligrapher and gifted teacher. What a blessing to have such a wonderful introduction to calligraphy. I became a person obsessed. I practiced all the time with no thought of where it might lead other than to make me happy.
Many years have passed, and I've had the opportunity to letter in many different situations. I still love letters and consider it my great privilege to make them for a living.
For several years my company, Wordsworth, designed and manufactured calligraphic products for the rubber stamp and scrapbook community. Those products are still available from www.rubbersoul.com. Wordsworth designs are also prominently featured in the cutting designs for the Cricut Machine, a personal die-cutting tool.
